Are there any producing mines in Burkina Faso today?

No. However there is none but one will begin production in 2007 and 3 more will commence construction. There is a long history of artisanal gold production which is the manual extraction of gold from near-surface, weathered rock by local inhabitants. Burkina Faso is strategically located between Ghana and Mali which have become the second and third largest gold producing countries in Africa.
